Michael Ballack scored the winning goal as Germany came from behind in Gelsenkirchen to beat Serbia in their final friendly before UEFA EURO 2008. The Chelsea FC midfielder decided the contest in the 82nd minute, firing a free-kick low into the Serbia net to complete the fightback after Oliver Neuville (74) had cancelled out Boško Janković's 18th-minute opener for the visitors. Germany are next in action on 8 June, when they tackle Poland in their EURO curtain-raiser in Klagenfurt.

Pavel Pogrebnyak and Roman Pavlyuchenko were on target as Guus Hiddink's side won their second pre-UEFA EURO 2008 friendly in Burghausen. Hiddink may have found his starting line-up for their first match of the summer tournament in Group D against Spain on 10 June as he fielded almost the same eleven that convincingly disposed of Kazakhstan 6-0 on Friday. The only change was striker Dmitri Sychev's deployment on the right wing in place of the injured Vladimir Bystrov.

Andy Keogh electrified the attendance at Croke Park on Saturday with an equalising goal of breath-taking audacity in the 90th minute of their friendly game against Serbia and ensured that new manager Giovanni Trapattoni’s new reign did not start on a negative note. Serbia threatened to spoil the party when they were gifted a goal in the 75th minute of a match that was essentially without distinction until then. Understandably, after a long season, the players were not at their sharpest.

Kings of Europe United are Champions of Europe for the third time after beating Chelsea in dramatic fashion... 6-5 on penalties. Edwin van der Sar was ultimately the man who made the Reds' dream come true when he saved the Blues' seventh spot-kick taken by Nicolas Anelka. John Terry also missed in the shoot-out, when a goal with his kick would have won the cup for Chelsea. Earlier, during normal time, Cristiano Ronaldo had put the Reds in front with a first-half header before Frank Lampard equalised in first-half injury time.

Goals in either half from Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs sealed the trophy for United, who have now won 10 titles since the inception of the Premier League.
